Why Bleed a Radiator?
- Improve Heating Efficiency: Releases trapped air, allowing hot water to circulate properly.
- Reduce Energy Costs: A properly functioning radiator uses less energy.
- Prevent Cold Spots: Ensures even heating throughout the radiator.
- Extend Radiator Lifespan: Regular maintenance prevents corrosion and blockages.
How to Bleed a Radiator
- Step 1: Turn Off Your Heating System
Ensure the system is off to prevent hot water from spilling. - Step 2: Locate the Radiator Bleed Valve
Find the small valve at the top of the radiator. - Step 3: Use a Radiator Key
Insert the key into the valve and turn it counterclockwise. - Step 4: Release Trapped Air
You'll hear a hissing sound as the air escapes. Once water starts to drip, close the valve. - Step 5: Check Your Boiler Pressure
If needed, top up the boiler pressure after bleeding your radiators.
